First Aid Courses

Our First aid at work training courses provide the comprehensive set of practical skills needed by first aiders in most workplaces to become a confident and competent first aider at work, giving both the practical ability and knowledge to deal with any first aid emergency. Courses meet the standards required to help comply with Health and Safety (First aid) regulations.

2 day - First Aid at Work Refresher

This course covers a wide range of first aid emergencies, enabling learners to deal with an emergency situation with confidence and in a prompt, safe and effective way.

Employers will meet their obligations under health and safety legislation and be confident that their employees can be given immediate help if they are injured or taken ill at work.

  • Responsibilities

  • Primary survey

  • Secondary assessment

  • The respiratory system

  • Resuscitation

  • Disorders of respiration

  • Disorders of the circulation

 

  Day 2

  • Wounds and bleeding

  • Disorders of consciousness

  • Foreign objects

  • Burns and scalds

  • Bones, joints and muscle injuries

  • Poisoning

  • Incident management training

  Day 3

  • Bites and stings

  • Effects of heat and cold

  • Recap of casualty management

  • Recap of resuscitation

  • Incident management

Previously, students who attended first aid courses were required to pass a final practical assessment. This has been replaced with continuous observation by the trainer and written assessments.

Conforming to Legislation

The Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981 require employers to provide adequate and appropriate equipment, facilities and personnel to ensure their employees receive immediate attention if they are injured or taken ill at work.

Course Certificate 

On successful completion the learner will be issued with a First Aid at Work certificate approved by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). This qualification is valid for three years which can be renewed by completing the two-day re-qualification course. The HSE strongly recommends that all first-aiders attend an annual 3-hour refresher course.
